The Golden Lane Estate is listed by English Heritage as a rare example of English modernist architecture. The architects, Chamberlain Powell & Bonn would eventually go on to build the Barbican Arts Centre, just 5 mins walk away, boasting 3 cinemas, a concert hall, a theatre, restaurants, bars and cafes.

The apartment is within a short distance of Clerkenwell, London’s designer district, and Smithfield, which has a particularly good selection of restaurants, pubs and bars.

A few minutes walk will take you to St Paul’s Cathedral, the Millennium Bridge, the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre on the river Thames south bank. Old Street “silicon” roundabout and Shoreditch are also in close proximity. Sunday is a chance to enjoy Colombia Road flower market and Spitalfields Market, both a leisurely stroll away.

The Golden Lane Estate has its own gym and swimming pool, as well as tennis and badminton courts. There is a Waitrose supermarket close by.

There are two Underground stations within very close proximity: Barbican (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines) and Old Street (Northern Line). Farringdon British Rail station with frequent direct trains to Gatwick Airport is also within walking distance.

  1. This location is great! Very centrally located and close to the Barbican tube station - we immensely enjoyed the location and found it very easy to get around. The actual place was also great, with everything as described and in good order. You will enjoy this place quite well if you decide to book here. Something I learned about staying in some facilities that is different than a hotel - hand soap may not be available, so make sure you bring that. And if you are used to washrags, you may want to bring those as well (coming from the US I found that even some hotels do not have the small washrags I'm used to).

  4. A cozy two storey flat on convenient Barbican location close to public transport, about 30 minutes to Oxford Street by bus. Note this flat is managed by a property agency, so you have to fix a check in and check out time, and they hand over the key in person. The check out required someone to come at an appointed time to inspect the flat before handing over keys. This is stressful for someone who's rushing to get things packed and a bit inflexible, not like the easy check outs I'm used to on Airbnb. The flat is also on street level and you can hear people talking in the public courtyard. They had nice thoughtful touches like lots of plants inside the flat, chocolate and cookies. No liquid hand soap, just a mini bar soap. Be prepared for bedrooms and bathroom up the stairs if you have lots of luggage.
