New Trade body Sharing Economy UK – UnderTheDoormat

UnderTheDoormat is now among 20+ members of a new UK trade body that will represent the UK’s growing sharing economy!

SEUK is an important milestone for the growing industry which comes as a result of the government report in November.

As stated on the website SEUK will strive to champion the sector, ensure it is represented it at its best practice and will act as a single voice of the industry.

It is exciting as a business to be a part of shaping the industry from the start, everything from insurance, to tax policy to health and safety standards. Our goal is to work to set the benchmark high and to represent best practice in the way UnderTheDoormat operates.

Our approach is to be open in sharing the processes we have already developed and continue to improve as well as the knowledge and experience in our team as we believe there is more to be gained from sharing and helping to create a strong industry with consistently good standards in place than a holding our cards close to our chest.

UnderTheDoormat signed the Code of the Conduct that ‘provides a clear framework of values and principles that members are expected to follow. This Code of Conduct was designed to enhance the operation, image and reputation of the sharing economy industry.’

We are attending an upcoming meeting on tax policy with HMRC to encourage the government to consider extending the Rent a Room scheme to cover all sharing economy activities as well as increasing the threshold. The IoD has recommended a threshold of £10k in their December report.

Being a member also means that UnderTheDoormat will be working together with SEUK members to ‘develop a kitemark for responsible sharing practice’ so customers can see which companies are working to the agreed standards.

We look after our customers and we are confident that we can bring a lot of innovative solutions in the development of the sharing economy in the UK and hopefully internationally.
