From smoothie bars to the Veggie Pret, the capital has no shortage of alternatives to a meaty meal. We’ve compiled a wide-ranging collection of London’s finest veggie establishments for the next time you’re stumped for choice:
High end
Vanilla Black: modern and contemporary dishes await you in the highly rated Art Deco-inspired restaurant offering vegetarian, vegan and wheat-free menus. Highlights include the cauliflower dumplings and the pineapple, tabasco biscuit and roasted cocoa for dessert.

Nearest tube: Chancery Lane
Manna: the vegan restaurant based in Primrose Hill is celebrating its 50th anniversary and hasn’t stopped producing beautiful plates filled with fresh vegetables designed for a healthier lifestyle. What has changed is the range on offer: they now do brunch and have a rapid lunch menu.

Indian
Sagar: the local South Indian restaurant isn’t actually just ‘the local’: it’s now found across west London, in Hammersmith, Covent Garden and Harrow. Their growth has only encouraged an expansion of the food on offer, and it remains an excellent hub of exquisite Indian dishes, with the restaurant specialising in dosas and uthappam (lentil pizzas).
Where: Hammersmith, Covent Garden, Harrow
Diwana Bhel Poori House: this unassuming anchor of the local area is hidden away, but worth the hunt for its spiced and fragrant dinner is matched by few others across London. It offers a lunchtime buffet at a reasonable price, while the restaurant is unlicensed, meaning guests can bring their own alcohol – there are nearby shops selling a good range of Indian beers.
Where: Drummond Street, NW1 2HL. Nearest tube: Euston
Snacks
Yorica: you’ll find an abundant range of frozen yoghurts and ice creams soon to be joined by smoothies in the quirky and original vegan café. The yoghurts are customisable, with a choice of fresh fruit, sauces and sweets such as dairy-free chocolate. Indulgence without the drawbacks.
