Secret things to do in Knightsbridge

The hidden garden

Rococo Chocolates offer a range of luxury indulgences in their quaint and tidy café. The shop stocks biscuits, coffee and pure chocolate in abundance, as well as putting on a full calendar of events including chocolate-making workshops and tastings. The real secret lies behind the shopfront in the MaRococo secret garden, a Moorish courtyard offering the perfect escape in which to enjoy a delicate hot chocolate.

The basement café

As you go behind the Brompton Oratory you may find its lesser-known neighbour, the Holy Trinity Brompton. However, you probably haven’t had a chance to explore the church properly – not least its basement, in which you’ll find one of Knightsbridge’s cutest cafés. The Brompton Café has brick walls, low-level lighting and wifi that provide an intimate atmosphere perfect for an afternoon’s work or a catch-up with friends.

The fashion boutique

Egg Trading is as mysterious as it is brilliant: exaggerated further by the whiteness of the interior. The venue is part shop, part fashion boutique and part art gallery rolled together into an intimate location on Kinnerton Street. The walls, and most of the clothing, are of various shades of ethereal white, but it makes for a beautiful and simple style.

The different way to experience a landmark

When it comes to secrets, Harrods hardly seems to provide an obvious choice. Arguably London’s most famous department store, its reputation is almost as big as its shop front, not least the magnificent lights that adorn the facade towards Christmas. However, it is remarkable that even in this Knightsbridge landmark you can find a hidden gem. The Ladurée is a Parisian tearoom providing a range of light lunches, including its signature macaroons, as well as other takes on haute cuisine. Founded in 1862, it has long been a pleasant surprise – and one of Harrods’ best-kept secrets.
