Homeowners

Effortlessly give more to your favourite charity

Charities’ donors are opening their homes to carefully selected guests when they are away as a method to donate more to their favourite causes without lifting a finger. The sharing of assets represents an exciting innovation in fundraising. UnderTheDoormat is working with charities to empower donors to give more by helping them to generate donations/funds by utilising dormant assets.

Why is this interesting?

Innovative Approach: The sharing economy provides a different approach for you to make a significant contribution to your charity without lifting a finger.

It’s positive: This new way of donating money doesn’t require any financial commitments from You  – or your friends or family.  Guests pay for the opportunity to stay in your home and the money you earn as a homeowner goes directly to charity.

It’s sustainable:  Your home is being used when it would have otherwise sat empty (also providing you peace of mind that it is looked after while you are away), a great way to get involved in the emerging ‘sharing economy’.

Over £1000 was donated by a single supporter to a charity in just one month by opening up her home to carefully selected guests to look after it while she was away.

How it works?

1. Introductory meeting

We will arrange a meeting so we can learn more about your home and answer any of your questions.

our_story_stay_authentic

2.Let us know when you are out of town

Decide when you home is available and we’ll market your home so our guests can book stays when you are away.

3. We find the perfect guests

We handle all enquiries, screen and meet guests, provide fresh towels, bed linen and toiletries, and carefully take them through your home rules.

  4. When you are signed up and receive bookings you can choose how to donate:

a. Directly

We will transfer money to the charity account of your choice as provided in the financial information form.  It’s convenient as the money goes direct to the charity after each guest stay – we take care of everything so no one has to lift a finger.

b. Homeowner transfer (Gift Aid optimal)

You can transfer money yourself directly to the charity and you can register the donation for gift aid.

                                      It’s your choice!

What charities do we work with?

We believe in being neutral on what causes to support and welcome any reputable charities* which would like to partner with us to raise money for their cause to get in touch. The charities we currently have official partnerships with include:

Just a Drop: An international water aid charity; Just a Drop’s mission is to reduce child mortality by delivering accessible, clean, safe water where it is needed most.  We’ve established this partnership, with the aim of constructing a water tank for Kyala School in Makueni County, Kenya. When completed the water tank will serve 214 pupils.  The water tank will harvest water from the school roof during the two Kenyan rainy seasons. By opening their homes, Just a Drop’s supporters will also provide sanitation and hygiene education on how best to use the water and install three hand washing stations in the school near the boys’, girls’ and teachers’ latrines. This will make a profound difference to the school community. Where Just a Drop have previously constructed water tanks, we now see prosperous schools with bright, proud students and determined teachers. Imagine, in just a week’s holiday, you could be helping 15 students to have long term access to clean water to support their education.  What a great way to feel good about your time away!

Serving the needs of the local Richmond Community; The Vineyard Community Centre offers support, comfort and hope to those in crisis. Our home owners, that are using their properties to raise funds for The Vineyard Community Centre, are helping to support the facility’s drop-in centre. It’s an inspiring place of refuge for those in crisis – providing food, clothing and washing facilities for the homeless in a borough where emergency accommodation can take many months to access. There are many reasons why people suffer homelessness or crisis. Having tourists stay in your home for just a couple of weeks this Summer or in choosing to stay in one of our properties that supports the Vineyard Community Centre, you could provide the support needed to break the downward spirals often associated with the circumstances of homelessness.

Hire-A-Hero is a charity that gives back to those that have served us and our community, by aiding service leavers in the transition back to civilian life. Hire-A-Hero offers a variety of support for these members of the army, navy and airforce; from employment support and mentoring, to career coaching and training. Further, the efforts of Hire-A-Hero reminds these members of the armed forces that they are not in it alone, and we at UnderTheDoormat are honoured to support this cause and those that have served our country.
